Akerman LLP and National CASA/GAL Association for Children are excited to announce the application process is now open for the annual Akerman Academic Excellence Scholarship Award.
As part of Akerman's $1 million pledge to National CASA/GAL, an endowment fund was created to support the Akerman Academic Excellence Scholarship. This program is designed to help young adults who have spent time in foster care pursue a post-secondary education through an accredited institution of higher learning such as a university, career college, or technical school. Seven incredible young people have benefited so far from this scholarship. The past three recipients share a passion for helping the next generation.
A scholarship for $2,500 will be awarded to an outstanding youth who has spent time in foster care and demonstrated a commitment to academic achievement. Additional scholarship funds will be awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Selection Committee. The scholarship committee is dedicated to removing barriers to success for these youth; scholarship funds have been used to pay rent, buy books, or pay tuition. Recipients remaining in good academic standing and meeting additional requirements may be eligible to receive the scholarship for four years.
Applicants can be from anywhere in the United States. Also, the students do not have to be fresh out of high school. If you know a young person who has spent time in foster care and meets the scholarship eligibility requirements, please nominate him or her for the award. The recipient and his/her CASA/GAL volunteer will be invited to attend the 2022 National CASA Conference in June in Seattle.
Timeline
The submission deadline is Monday, April 18, by 5 p.m. PT.
The scholarship recipient will be announced in early June 2022.
